John Calvin (1509-1564) was a famous Christian theologian, next to Martin Luther,
who helped the Protestant movement greatly. He wrote a book called "The Institutes
of the Christian Religion", which is still in use by many pastors, students,
theologians, scholars, etc. He played a great influence on the Christian church.
About one hundred year after he died, the debate between the five points mentioned
above began. They chose to name or label it "Calvinism" to make it easier to
communicate rather than repeat the whole five points again and again. Some prefer
to avoid the term "Calvinism" and call it "The Doctrines of Grace". Others call it
"The Reformed Faith". In any case, all three of those labels mean the same thing.
I personally have no shame in calling these five points "Calvinism". It's not a
dirty word.
No, Calvinists do not worship John Calvin. Ask any Bible-believing Calvinist.
They will tell you that they do not worship John Calvin, a sinner. Of course, John
Calvin cannot save anyone. Only Christ can. Of course, John Calvin was not
perfect. Only Christ is. But keep in mind that I dare say that John Calvin was a
lot more accurate than you in interpreting the Bible.
We suggest you read what John Calvin WROTE to make your own judgement.
